Northern Territory Compliance

In the Northern Territory, fire safety is managed under the *Fire and Emergency Act 1996*. Section 91 establishes a duty of care for owners and occupiers to maintain fire safety installations and provide valid evacuation routes.

The NT Technical Standard

Safety in the NT is pinned to the AS 1851 framework:

  • AS 1851-2012 (The Mandate): Routine servicing of essential fire safety installations.
  • AS 3745 (The Technical Standard): The requirements for emergency planning committee (EPC) governance.
  • Site Readiness: NT facilities must ensure diagrams and plans are current and reflect the actual building usage.
