Frequently Asked Questions
How often do evacuation diagrams need to be updated?
AS3745 requires annual review. Diagrams must be updated when building layout changes, exits are added/removed/relocated, fire protection equipment locations change, assembly areas change, or evacuation routes are modified.
Do we need diagrams on every floor?
Generally, yes. AS2444 and AS3745 require diagrams at each floor level, near lifts, at main entry points, and in high-traffic common areas. A 5-story building might need 15-25 diagrams total depending on floor size and layout.
What if our building doesn't have current floor plans?
We can create evacuation diagrams from site measurements even without existing CAD plans. We measure the space, create accurate floor plan representations, and develop compliant diagrams. This costs slightly more but is often necessary for older buildings.
Can diagrams be displayed digitally on screens?
Yes, digital display is acceptable if: screens are in compliant locations, diagrams are visible at all times (not rotating), screen is powered by emergency backup, and fallback printed diagrams are available. Most buildings use printed diagrams for reliability.
Do tenants need diagrams inside their tenancy?
It depends on tenancy size, layout complexity, whether tenancy has separate exits, lease requirements, and local council/fire authority requirements. Large tenancies (500sqm+) typically need internal diagrams in addition to common area diagrams.
How long does the process take?
Typical timeline: Site survey 1-3 days, Design & client review 3-7 days, Production & delivery 5-10 days. Total: 2-3 weeks from site visit to delivery. Rush service available for urgent requirements.
